2012 Spring Awards

With season's end comes the opportunity to celebrate excellence on the field, respect for the game, and an appreciation for fellow team members.

Recognized at the spring awards program with remarks by Coach Kris Bayer are the following players for their work on the field:

Unsung Hero: Jacob Fitch
He was matched up with the best midfielder from every team and although his long hair and physical style earned him some strange looks and more than his share of penalties, he also earned the respect of everyone he played against and threw in a goal and 4 assists to boot.

Most Improved: Chris Clark and David Brown
Chris dominated the faceoff X for us and helped control the tempo of many of our games with his ball possession and smart defense. He also won the biggest faceoff of the year against Calvert in our playoff to give us a chance to tie the game.

David went from asking halfway through the season what he could do to even get on the field to being the most dominant player on the grass against Calvert. His leadership and class will be sorely missed next season, especially for a kid who picked up a stick for the first time six months ago.

Outstanding Sportsmanship: Jake Bayer
HJake was the undisputed leader on a team full of talented upper-classmen. He carried himself with class and composure (except on the rare occasion that his dad had to remind him to calm down) all season.  We’re glad to get him back next year as much for his leadership as his scoring. Jake has been recognized as the US Lacrosse Academic All American for the Southern Maryland region.

MVP: Nathan Hupp
Nathan went from being the stringy kid who was kind of a throw-in on the first midfield line his freshman year, to the most dominant midfielder, if not player, in the county. Holding his own against the top players in SMAC, kids who have been playing this sport 9 and 10 years longer than him, he was third on the team with scoring and assists, but his clearing and ability to nearly always make the right play will be missed more than anything.
